Strong Tower Q&A

What is the class structure?

Classes start with Bible study, warm-up, and technique practice, leading to rolling or drills.

Are there kids classes?

Yes, our kids’ classes include memory verses that students are required to memorize in order to be eligible to advance in their Jiu Jitsu belts.

What about adult classes?

Adult classes feature organic Bible study, focusing on different books each session.

How long are classes?

Classes typically last 1 hour and 15 minutes total.

Is a uniform required?

Yes, all students are required to purchase and wear a Jiu Jitsu uniform. Information on how to order the uniform will be provided at the time of registration. Please note that other martial arts uniforms are not permitted. If this is your first time training in Jiu Jitsu, you may attend your first class in regular workout attire.

What should I bring to class?

Bring a gym towel, a bottle of water, your Jiu Jitsu uniform (gi), and a pair of sandals to easily step on and off the mats.

Why are sandals required?

Only bare feet are allowed on the mats. Sandals make it easier for students to step onto the mats and remove them, then put them back on when stepping off the mats.

Are there any age restrictions?

Kids classes are from 5 to 12 years of age, and adult classes are 13 and above.

How much are the classes?

Our classes are donation based, everyone must donate something to participate each class, but we do not enforce how much. If the Lord is blessing you through this ministry we encourage students to give as God instructs them in their hearts.

It's my first class, how should I prepare?

We strive to create a family-friendly, welcoming atmosphere, so you are welcome to join us whenever you are ready. If you just want to try out the class, come in workout clothing. After your first class, you will be required to purchase and bring your own gi. Please make sure you have fully read and signed the liability waiver and the rules and regulations forms either before or upon arrival.

I have injuries and medical conditions, can I still come?

We are not medical professionals, so we always encourage everyone to consult their doctor first. However, we are not a competition gym, and our goal is not to train the next world champion. Our focus is to help everyone learn a skill that can be life-saving and beneficial for both physical and mental well-being. If you are ready, come and join us, and be sure to inform the instructor and your training partner about any physical limitations. There is no judgment at Strong Tower.

I am sick, can I still come? I don't want to miss-out

Because of the close-contact nature of Jiu Jitsu, we ask that anyone who is sick—including members of our leadership team—stay home and recover. That said, once you join Strong Tower, you become part of our family. We believe a healthy family supports each other, so let us know how we can help, and we will do our best to care for you during your recovery.
